I think I am blessed to grow stronger in truth and love because of the grief. My son, and his death, have taught me a tremendous amount about life and love. If the grief had a half life it seems like it would mean that the things that have brought me here might disappear. There is also beauty in a scar. Deep prayers for souls are always welcome.

I cannot hope to understand the depths of the pain and sorrow you must live with. I do hope that you will grow stronger in truth and love in spite of your pain. I extend the deepest prayers of my soul for the hope of your comfort and healing.

I had a son die over 20 years ago and I can honestly say that I do not believe there is a half life to grief. You just learn how to incorporate loss into who you are now.

Cool. I'd be interested in hearing some of it. I've been working on a reverse kind of project, on a sort of symphony of words in something approaching a novel form. I've posted a few excerpts usually entitled "... (from Blackbirds)". It's been a long work in progress but deeply rewarding. There's a lot of inspiration mixing media.

Ironically enough, though I never studied music formally, and I'm constantly accused of being tone deaf, I do write what I hesitate to call my own music. It really is more ambient/trance type stuff. I'm working towards a body of work and I've mentioned a couple projects before on the site here. Most specifically a project with a friend Joe Schell on the Steel Forged Man poem. At some point in the future I will be upgrading my blog to be able to support sound files and will be sampling my work here.

I studied music composition in college and have written music for a variety of music styles (although I'm out of practice and was never particularly prolific). Do you play anything? Guitar takes a little bit of work, but once you get the hang of it, it's relatively easy to pick up and write songs with. Oddly enough, I haven't written music in awhile because I found it to be too restrictive a medium personally and prefer to use the written word to express the music that's in there. As a musician though, I'm always very inspired by sound and rhythm and often have specific songs influencing my writing... which was why I asked about your musical influence originally. Good luck with that. The little bit of counsel I can give in the musical field (as far as verse/refrain structures go) is that contrast/variation and flow are key. Our ears notice the differences more than the similarities and hold onto them like rungs on a ladder, propelling us up through the more familiar structures.
