I hope that the words of the title of this blog ring a bell. Anyone with a proper understanding or even a smattering of information about our nations history should understand the importance of these words. You can find them in the Gettysburg Address, delivered by our late president Abraham Lincoln.

An excerpt from our Declaration of Independence and something that I believe that everyone should have read at least once.
The older I get the more wide my world view becomes. I am no longer satisfied to sit by each day and let the people of power dictate to me what the truth is. Some people may call me a cynic. That’s just another ugly label and a cop-out. What that really means is that you really don’t want to think about my argument and the statements I’ve made. I accept that you have your own opinion and that’s great. I just ask that if you wish to comment on my arguments that they be equally well thought out and intellectually formulated, not just something you heard someone else say about the topic I choose to discuss. I am done with staying out of state and federal politics. I don’t like the term politics because I believe that most, if not all, politicians have their own personal agenda. This is not the role they should be filling in our government. As the title states, Government of the people, by the people, for the people. People being all the persons/citizens of under that government. We no long have this anymore here in America. What we have is a government of the people, by the elite, for the elite. This is wrong.

Some of the ways in the above link point out just how easily an ‘elite’ can manipulate the system to gain more money wealth and power. In that same note, Congress can vote itself a raise. What person would not vote to receive more money for the work that they do? Is it selfish and wrong? I think that being a person in government should be a sacrifice for the people of the country, not some badge of honor and a privilege that provides you with power, prestige and special treatment. These are the people who are supposed to speak for us the people. They should be one of us, not someone high above us. They should see themselves as no better or worse then the people who they represent. I do not believe that the politicians of today see it that way at all.
